For my human factors class, the professor split our class into groups of three and we were tasked with creating Lisa (pictured to the right) and her family their dream home in Bloomington, Illinois. Lisa is a bilateral amputee, so we wanted to ensure she could live and function in this home comfortably for the rest of her life. We conducted an interview with Lisa to specify her current needs and potential needs throughout the aging process.
My team members, Jessica Hanning, Renissa Mutha, and I, were assigned the master bedroom and closet. software/skills Space Planning, Material Selection, Furniture Selection, Lighting Selection, 3D Modelling, Rendering, Revit, Photoshop, InDesign |
The master bedroom needed to be extended in order to achieve the optimal circulation and open-concept. The master bedroom is situated on the first floor, closer to her youngest daughters room, and to prevent physical strain for Lisa. It is also located on the same floor as the living room and kitchen, allowing for easier transition between spaces. The closet space in the bedroom has an entrance and exit on both sides, as well as being near the bathroom for Lisa to have a spacious place to lay out and change her clothes. Given the aging process, all entryways are wide enough for a wheelchair to pass through, and built-in furniture at suitable heights for support and comfort.
Stylistically, Lisa prefers the mid-century modern design style. We incorporated that into our design by using neutral tones with minimalistic decor. We also utilized clean, geometric lines, accent walls, and modern forms. |
