In my Studio 4 class at ISU, our professor tasked us with designing a senior independent living facility for the community of Mackinaw, Illinois. We were split into small groups and collaborated with Construction Management students to come up with the building design, structure, estimated budget, and schedule. As the design team, we were initially in charge of conducting a site visit, client interview with the town's mayor and pastor, and additional preliminary research. The preliminary research included community demographics, research on existing senior living communities, such as the Villas of Holly Brook & Reflections in Bloomington, IL, and an end user survey.
Our research findings are shown below, as well as how they influenced the end result in our design.
